Frequently Asked Questions

What is Strategic Reading?

Strategic Reading is my step-by-step approach to strengthening reading comprehension skills. Students learn how to understand story structure, find the best evidence, and build confidence as readers. Each grade-level class is designed to match students’ reading needs.

For whom are the classes?

My classes are designed for students in grades 3-8 who want to improve their reading comprehension. Some students join because they are struggling, while others are advanced readers who want to sharpen their skills.

How are the classes taught?

Classes are live, small-group lessons taught online. Each group is limited to 5 students so everyone has a chance to participate. Lessons include instruction, concept modeling, guided reading, and discussion.

What makes this program different?

Unlike generic reading programs, Strategic Reading is built on proven methods I developed as a teacher - including the STORY framework and Best Evidence approach. These help students engage deeply with texts and improve their grades and test performance.

What technology do I need to join?

Students need a reliable internet connection, a computer or tablet with MS Teams, and either a printer to print out the reading material or a device with a touch screen (ie, tablet or laptop). Students will need a pair of headphones or earbuds with a microphone (they do not have to be an expensive pair). Students will also need a quiet space to participate.

How long are the classes?

Each class is 1 hour. Each cohort meets once per week.

What is the cost?

Classes are priced per student, per session. Please see the Classes page for up-to-date rates.

Do you offer free demonstration classes?

Yes! I offer free demonstration classes to organizations such as churches and homeschool pods only. Send me a message via my Contact page to discuss how I can offer a free demonstration class to your organization.

How do I know which class to choose?

Classes are divided by grade level (3-4, 5-6, 7-8). If you are unsure, contact me and I will help place your child in the best fit.
